For the last years, we at ESCVDO have worked with the members of the Puerto Miguel Community, a population located off the Yarapa river, in the creation of our signature handcrafted palm-fiber Willow Bags. This community is one of many like it – located on the shores of the Amazonian Rivers, within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve – connected to the rest of civilization only by river. Each year, this area of the rainforest sees approximately 40 feet of rainfall during the wet season, a time that brings with it many challenges for its inhabitants.
The COVID19 pandemic has brought tourism in this area to a halt, resulting in a local economic crisis for many of these communities that depend on the tourism industry.
In order to support our friends and artisans in these unsure times, we will be donating 30% of our profits on all online purchases to the Puerto Miguel Community for the foreseeable future.
